Women who have completed pregnancy, or individuals who have lost a significant amount of weight, may be candidates for a body contouring procedure. For moms, this is sometimes referred to as a mommy makeover and can tighten and lift certain body parts affected by pregnancy, including the breasts, tummy and hips. Body contouring can be a single procedure (such as a breast lift) or it can be multiple procedures that take place in one surgical setting to address sagging skin and excess fat. San Antonio plastic surgeon, Dr. Michael Decherd, uses the latest advances in medical technology to produce outstanding aesthetic results. Following a body contouring procedure, patients are excited about their new figure, which includes a more toned and smooth appearance.
Body Contouring Reviews
"Dear Dr. Decherd - It has taken me a long time to write this to you because there just aren't enough words to express how grateful I am for what you are doing for me. You would have to have lived in my arms to know what thrill I feel to see my arm slide into a shirt that is actually my size instead of 3 sizes too big..sometimes bigger. Although you may not realize, I know without a doubt that God led me to you. I prayed many days. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."- Anonymous / Office Visit / Jan 27, 2015
"I am in the medical field and have experience with surgeons and other doctors all over the city. I spent almost a year doing my research and I "interviewed" (consulted) 5 plastic surgeons for my procedure. I knew during my initial consultation with Dr.Decherd that he was the surgeon for me. He listens very well, has an amazing bedside manner, and is truly dedicated to making sure his patients are happy with their results! I have been truly amazed by how he has transformed my body!"- V. / Healthgrades / Sep 08, 2016

"Dr. Decherd is a fabulous, no-nonsense surgeon. He will straight up tell you what will work, what won't work, while addressing all of your questions and concerns. There are no marketing gimmicks here! His surgical technique is superb and his staff go above and beyond to accommodate personal or individual needs. I would hands down recommend him to anyone looking for an honest consult whether to help slow the aging process, yet still look natural or a complete body transformation. Surgical Techniques Used
Body contouring incorporates several techniques, including liposuction for fat removal, skin removal to eliminate sagging and wrinkling, and finally, a tightening technique to firm and tone the body part. Common areas addressed during body contouring are the breasts, tummy, buttocks, flanks, hips and thighs. If more than one body part is addressed during surgery, the recovery will be slightly longer for the patient. Sometimes, surgery may be staged in 2-3 settings.

Body Contouring FAQs
What Can I Expect?
Body contouring is performed under general anesthesia in an accredited surgical facility. In most cases, patients will be released after surgery. However, many times, if a combination surgery is taking place, an overnight stay at the hospital may be required. The duration of the surgery, length of the hospital stay, and overall recovery period will depend on how many procedures were performed, as well as the overall health of the patient.
Best Time To Have?
For weight loss patients, Dr. Decherd requires the individual to be at or near his or her goal weight prior to undergoing a body contouring procedure. It is also recommended that women who are having surgery to address body parts affected by pregnancy wait until all pregnancies are complete. Any additional weight gain and skin stretching can compromise the overall surgical outcome.
How Bad Are The Scars?
Unfortunately, body contouring by nature does include scars. This is because skin removal is a part of the process, and the incisions have to be made to accommodate this. Dr. Decherd makes every effort to minimize the scars by carefully placing the incisions in areas where they can be hidden by undergarments. The scars will eventually fade and blend in with the patient’s natural skin tone. We will provide scar care treatment as part of the post-operative process so that patients can tend to their scars at home.
