Overview

Dr. Michael Decherd and Dr. Matthew Isakson have changed the size, shape and look of the breasts for countless San Antonio area women who desire both a “perkier” and fuller look. This can be achieved by combining a breast lift with breast augmentation using implants. This surgery not only removes excess skin to correct breast sagging and drooping, but it brings the breast to a more elevated position on the chest wall, and then increases the size with either a silicone or saline implant.

Surgical Technique

During this procedure, we perform the lift first by trimming away excess skin and tightening the underlying tissue and muscle. To achieve a proportionate look, the areola will sometimes be decreased and the nipple repositioned. Regarding breast fullness, Dr. Decherd or Dr. Isakson and the patient will have multiple discussions regarding size. If there is native breast tissue that exists, this will have to be accounted for when determining breast implant size prior to surgery. Some patients are not quite sure how they will feel about breast augmentation after the lift, so in some instances, this may be a staged surgery. Regarding the incision, the most common pattern includes an incision that is made all the way around the areola, with an additional vertical incision that extends down to the natural fold.

Breast Aug With Lift FAQs

What Can I Expect?

This surgery is performed under general anesthesia in an accredited surgical facility. After surgery, patients will need to rest and take it easy for a few days. Any activities that cause impact (lifting, exercise, etc.) should be avoided until Dr. Decherd or Dr. Isakson have performed their post-operative evaluation. Most women are able to get back into their normal routines within 4-6 weeks. It will take a few months for the breasts to settle into their new position and assume a soft, natural look.

Will Implants Help Sagging?

Women who are pleased with the size and fullness of their breasts, but want to correct the sagging, will usually benefit with a breast lift procedure (without the placement of implants). It is important to understand that not all breasts require a lift and not all breasts need implants. We will perform an assessment and recommend the best treatment plan. Breast augmentation will help with size, but will not lift a sagging breast. If there is moderate to severe sagging, women should be leery of any surgeon who recommends implants alone.

What About The Incision?

A breast lift does require an incision that typical runs from the nipple down. There are various incision patterns that can be considered depending on the size of the breasts, severity of the sagging, and overall complexity of the surgical case. Breasts with severe sagging may need the anchor-shaped incision in order to garner the best results (one that goes around the areola, vertically down to the crease and along the fold).
